Jeffrey Whited

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Jeffrey Whited is a dedicated public servant with over 15 years of experience regulating the safe use of commercial nuclear power at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

In his role as a White House Leadership Development Program Fellow, Mr. Whited joins the Office of the Federal Chief Sustainability Officer’s Council on Environmental Quality where he will be providing advice on policy, programs, and engagement to further the goals of the administration’s Federal Sustainability Plan.

Throughout his career at the NRC, Mr. Whited has held many positions of increasing responsibility including Engineer, Project Manager, Technical Assistant, Nuclear Systems Engineer, and Supervisor. In these roles, he has gained an appreciation of building diverse teams to undertake the variety of challenges facing the agency. As a Supervisor, Mr. Whited implemented the policy, programs and activities, including coordinating licensing and technical reviews associated with the overall project management for operating light-water power reactors in the Midwest.

Most recently, Mr. Whited led the first-of-a-kind effort to review the transition of a power reactor back to an operational status after it had started the process of decommissioning. His efforts were instrumental in establishing and leading the team conducting this novel licensing review.

Mr. Whited holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

In his free time, Mr. Whited enjoys spending time with his son and daughter, reading them books and playing outside.
