Namrata Boveja is a collaborative leader, creative problem solver, and Attorney with over 18 years of patent prosecution experience.
As a White House Leadership Development Program Fellow, Ms. Boveja is assigned to the Office of the United States Trade Representative as the Director of Industrial Trade Policy. She is looking forward to bringing her creativity, passion, networking, and communication skills to her placement and developing new skills in negotiations and diplomacy.
In her most recent role as a Supervisory Patent Examiner in the business methods technology area at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Ms. Boveja led a group of patent examiners who examined patent applications in the finance, banking, and insurance related technologies. She also led several impactful agency projects including the development of a business methods webpage to clarify the examiner decision-making process and provide statistics and training materials to the public to increase transparency and improve customer service. Additionally, she participated in an interagency project to enhance human capital management and foster employee engagement by interviewing, recording, and hosting podcasts of senior executive staff members regarding leadership best practices.
Before this, Ms. Boveja served as an Acting Director in the mechanical engineering technology area that examines transportation, construction, agriculture, and national security related applications. She organized ideation workshops based on design thinking principles with supervisors to collaboratively define problems, determine pain points, develop and evaluate potential solutions, and implement solutions to improve operational efficiency. She also served as a Business Analyst Reviewer and Attorney at the Office of the United States Trade Representative, where she reviewed and decided Section 301 tariff exclusion requests.
Ms. Boveja received an Exceptional Career Award, a Bronze Medal Award, and multiple Leadership and Action Awards. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Maryland College Park. Additionally, she earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of District of Columbia. She has also completed an Executive Certificate in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Outside of work, Ms. Boveja enjoys playing badminton and spending time with her family and friends.
